Work through the simulation with other bookkeepers.
Real-world bookkeeping experience, structured discussion, and the opportunity to build judgment alongside peers. Centred around the Grand Gate Gardens Bookkeeping Simulation. See what is in the file.
The live cohort is a small group of bookkeepers working through the Grand Gate Gardens Bookkeeping Simulation in parallel. You work through it independently over eight weeks, with weekly checkpoints and live sessions in a cohort of your peers.
No prior formal bookkeeping experience is required. Every document has a walkthrough if you want one, and the Nomi Notes set gives you suggested categories and the occasional hint.
This is not that one. A private cohort runs for your firm only, with the owner in the room and your firm’s standards being decided rather than compared. That is on the firms page.
One price, access included.
Eight weekly group sessions facilitated by me, plus both document sets, including the one with Nomi Notes, and the answer key. Your own access to the simulation stays yours after the cohort ends. Payment plans available.
QuickBooks Online or anything else you like working in. You use a fresh file with the simulation documents, never your own client data. There is a 30-day QBO trial option, and you will have to pay for an additional month once the trial ends.
Pacing. You get full access the day you enrol, so you can work ahead if you want to. If you fall behind, the weekly sessions are still worth attending because you see what is coming, and your access to the simulation continues after the cohort, so you can finish the file on your own time.
I will be setting a date soon, but I will do it sooner if there is interest. I am up for starting a cohort sooner if four people show interest for the same time frame, so when you join the waitlist, feel free to add the months that would work for you. You will hear the date before it goes anywhere else, with first refusal on a seat. No deposit, and nothing happens until you say yes to an actual date.
If you already have three or four people who would do it with you, we do not have to wait for anyone. Tell me and we will pick a date that works for your group, at a lower price per person than joining on your own.
The ones that come up before anyone signs anything.
Yes. You work through the documents on your own each week, and then we meet live on Zoom in a small group. In addition, there are 34 bookmarked walkthroughs inside the simulation that stay available to you after the cohort ends, so there is always something to go back to.
You download the week’s documents and bank feed, do the bookkeeping in your own software, and answer a short set of spot check questions. Then we meet for an hour and discuss where you may have questions, where the group split, and which differences are okay and which are not. Two to four hours of your own work, plus the session.
No. You work in a fresh file using the simulation’s source documents. Nothing about your clients is involved, and nothing you do can affect a real file.
No prior formal experience is required. The simulation is designed to meet all learners where they are at. There are two document sets, and the one with Nomi Notes gives you suggested categories and the occasional hint. Every document has a bookmarked walkthrough if you want to watch how I entered it. The bookkeeping scenarios grow in complexity as the simulation progresses.
It takes me about seven hours, and I know every story in the file because I wrote it. An experienced bookkeeper would likely take about ten to fifteen, and learning bookkeepers will take upwards of thirty hours. The simulation builds in complexity, but even the early weeks carry important conversations: how to handle mixed-use expenses such as a personal vehicle, the efficient way to calculate the 50% meals ITC adjustment, and other principles-versus-rules questions from real-life scenarios that solopreneur bookkeepers often miss out on. Every week of documents has at least one learning moment planted. The conversations are the biggest value. You don’t know what you don’t know, and many of us are smarter than one of us.
The weekly live sessions follow a structured flow, and you are welcome to bring questions from earlier periods if you need to, while still seeing what people are asking about the weeks ahead. The conversations are always valuable. If you fall further behind, your access does not expire when the cohort ends, so you finish the rest at your own pace. And simulation questions are always welcome at the free monthly Fabulous First Fridays at Five Zoom calls.
Yes. You get the whole file the day you enrol. You are welcome to follow along week by week with the group, or begin exploring the simulation earlier if you prefer.
Whatever you want to work in. The walkthroughs are recorded in QuickBooks Online, so QBO makes the comparison easiest, and there is a 30 day free trial with a discounted rate after it. The source documents themselves are software agnostic.
Yes, just ask when you join the waitlist and we will sort it out before the cohort starts.
The file is identical. What you are paying for is the eight sessions: hearing other bookkeepers describe the call you were unsure about, and the principles-versus-rules conversations you cannot have on your own. Together we can ask questions, compare approaches, talk through judgment calls, troubleshoot real-world scenarios, and sanity check our thinking, all based on the same file, so we are seeing the same thing. The weekly checkpoints also add accountability to finishing the simulation, which may be as valuable as the conversations themselves.
